Taking Her Away

I know not always does it seem it’s right,
But this is just my job, it’s what I do--
I took the form of driver one grim night,
And took her life. I don’t know if he knew.
She was so young, but each life has its time,
If Fate decrees it, I must see it done.
I feel no sadness in this heart of mine,
Remorse is but a mortal setting sun.
Her mother’s back there now, she’s wond’ring why
Her baby won’t come greet her as she nears.
The folks whose yard she died in watch and sigh,
A tragedy to them, so say their tears.
It almost hurts to see them weep their fawn,
But such is life--and death. I must move on.
